Alex knocks back the water in the glass without hesitation, swallowing
gratefully. Immediately, the pain dulls, a taste like violets blooming on
her tongue. She sags back against the pillows for a moment, and then she
shfits herself into a more comfortable position.
"We'll be okay," she says. She figures one of them needs to keep saying it.
